Troll?

I started using the chat feature, and I am very confused by one phrase everyone kept using: Troll.

Most of the time, I see a lot of people use it by replacing popular phrases or names with this word "troll." I kind of see a pattern but I have no idea what the word troll means. I'm not even sure if it has a meaning. I know what Tron is. But I have never heard of Troll. People n the chat were too busy playing word games with this "troll" thing, and no one had time to answer my question.

So, what I am asking is, what is the origin of this phrase, how do you use it, and if it is game-related, where can I find it in the game?

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted".

While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. possibly, but this one has been around for over 20 years. We used to use it WAAAAYYYYY back on the BBS's in the pre-internet days.

That's a really good idea! I should use search engines more when I have questions like this. I was under the impression that this term was only used here; I didn't know it is a very popular term.

I also like how this message board has "Quick Reply" feature at the bottom of the page. This way I can reply to messages more quickly. Great job!
