60 Thugs, 120 Guard Dogs -- how best to battle (discussion: combat simulator)

    Lvl 23.

60 Thug/120 Dog is my next battle. I've been successful so far, but I know it's mostly b/c of numbers, fighting with a full 200 (Recruit, Bowman, Militia, Calvary -- roughly 20% to 30% each -- really, whatev I could recruit to reach 200).

I have used the combat simulator to see if I'd lose or win -- but I don't know how to really use it. I entered, say, 100 Recruit vs. 100 Scavenger to see how that goes. I note the results. Then I try 100 Bowmen in same scenario to see how successful. Etc.

I know there must be a better way.

Against that it depends if you want to lose more troops or less troops but more expensive ones.

Generally that setup would be easy with 200 recruits and you will have around 75-90 recruits die although if you use more expensive troops it will be less but more resources will be lost because of it and generally the 200 recruits would work the best if you don't mind waiting for the settlers or using bread to get them fast and provided you make a decent amount of bronze swords and beer.

You don't want to use bow units as the dogs will target them first and kill them before they can attack and cavalry would be too expensive to use against that many dogs.

As for the sim you simply enter the troops you want to test against a set amount like you did but remember some units need others, bowmen will get slaughtered without recruits to absorb the damage.

hallophp declares this the winner: 83 recruits and 117 militia.
