    Let's talk about Crossbows

I have just started building Crossbowman and I'm interested in the mechanics of their combat order.

    1. It says they will not be attacked until all melee units are killed.
    2. What units can still attack them when melee units are still alive?
I.E. First Strike, Attacks Weakest, splash damage

The same mechanics that apply to Xbowmen are the same as Longbowmen with the exception of Xbowmen get attacked after Longbowmen. So if you are facing "Attack Weakest" Troops and you have Bowmen, Longbowmen and Xbows in your attack - the bowmen die first, followed by Lowbowmen and then XBowmen.

I think the phase "You can't handle the truth!" applies here. You already posted the answer "NONE" So you need to read and this time understand your own (1.)

Wow. You might want to double-check the battle mechanics before making a post like that. Tell ya what, fire up a SFTR adventure, and hit Sir Robin's camp with 1R and 1XBow. Then playback the battle report & watch your crossbowman die before your recruit. Then come back & apologize to the OP, maybe.

To the OP - ignore the text attached to YOUR troops in terms of who'll be attacked, and when. Read what the bandit's troops say. In the case of Sir Robin, (and many others across different adventures), it says they have both First Strike, and Attack Weakest. Unless you're sending cavalry, ranged troops are gonna be your weakest. So don't send ranged, or cav, against someone like Sir Robin, (unless there's some compelling reason to do so).

^^ What he said. All in all anything that has first strike and attacks weakest troop will generally hit Xbowmen unless you have longbowmen, regular bowmen, or cav in the attack with you. When I see something like dogs or cav in a camp I generally hit with a soft suicide wave of recruits. That generally handles the problem BUT I always calc out the attack using the sim in this link: http://settlersonlinesimulator.com/dso_kampfsimulator/ That goes a long way in hanging on to those precious troops.

    Signature by me!
