Notepad or Scratchpad

I wanted to have a small notepad/scratchpad (say with a 1000 character limit). That way I can write down my agenda (which mines are running short, which enemy camps are to be attacked, trade, etc.). Currently I use the email system - I send an email to myself. That's fine in a way, but it's a bit cumbersome.

Wouldn't it be easier to just go to your start menu and open notepad? I wouldn't want to use an in-game notepad. The game would just end up crashing in the middle of writing something.
