In 1994 when I was in high school, we changed a transfer number at the front office phone. When they transferred to the principal's office, it instead went to a dirty 1-900 number. Took them two days to figure it out. :-)

It's fun / funny alright! But where did it come from??? Some suggest it was referred to in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1392). Yeah, Geoff refers to April - but more in regards to end of winter / start of spring.

Now, here's one theory (borrowed from "The History of April Fools' Day" by Melody Everdeen)

A Tale as Old as Time

The most widely accepted theory behind the origin of the popular day for foolish pranks revolves around the switch from the Julian calendar to Pope Gregory XIII’s Gregorian calendar in 1582. Previously, the New Year had been a week-long celebration that took place from March 25 to April 1. Under the new calendar however, New Year’s Day was moved to January 1. The reform of the calendar took place in France under the rule of Charles IX. Since communication moved slowly in that day and age, news of the reform to the new calendar took years to travel. Those who did not receive the news for several years, in addition to those who refused to accept the new calendar, continued to celebrate New Year’s Day on April 1. Over time, these individuals were labeled as being backward and were teased for their foolish belief that the New Year began on April 1. This teasing eventually gave way to traditional April Fools’ Day pranks and joviality.

    So.... Happy New Year!

I'm gonna invite some friends to my place tomorrow and play 2 pranks on them.
    1. Fill a cup with water, cover it on top and quickly flip it upside down on the counter. I'm gonna ask someone to get me a cup of water during get-together. They'll lift the pre-filled upside down cup and water would spill all over them.
    2. (this one is kinda gross) I'm gonna go into the washroom, which is right next to the living room. I've already prepared a few bottles of water under the sink. Once I go in, I will pour the two bottles of water one by one down the toilet so it sounds like I have a never ending amount of pee

Setting a persons browser home page to a FBI warning screen so that's the first thing they see when opening a browser is a quick fix.
