    Dev's Diary 4/24/2012

    Settlers!

Blue Byte recently sent us a developer diary. This diary focuses on the features that are currently being worked on. We hope to have most of these features released by June. Some of these features are already active on the Test Server. You can find information on how to access the Test Server here.

    Building queue extension
Good news Settlers! You will soon be able to have more than five building queue slots! This new feature is currently active on the test server and will be released in one of the next updates. There will be more than 5 building slots (up from 3). In the future, you will be able to extend the capacity with up to 3 permanent and 3 temporary slots. This will give you up to 9 building slots: 3 standard, 3 permanent, and 3 temporary for your building queue.

    Soccer Event
Ever heard of the Euro Cup? It is a huge soccer tournament coming to Europe this summer. Not interested in watching it on tv? You can play it in-game! In June, soccer is coming to the Settlers Online in a big way. Want to test the event? Head over to the test server where you can play the upcoming European Soccer Championship themed event. This event includes several new items, special daily quests, a new building, and special adventures.

    Combat preview
This new preview will show up before you attack an enemy’s camp. It will provide you with the likelihood of a victory in battle before you send your troops in.

Building interface changes, moving buildings, and toolbox
These three features are a high priority and related to each other. Once implemented, when you click on a building an information window will appear. This window will be simplified. The demolition of buildings will be found in this new toolbox. In addition, the construction and the demolition of roads will be in this toolbox.

This is a preview: The final design might differ!

    New trade system
We will be updating the trade system, making it more user friendly.

The trade window will be removed from the regular chat window and get its own new space.
In the future, you can trade more items at once, and all non-limited items can be traded. This includes self-produced buffs like the fish plates. Trading amounts will no longer limited to 400 units and it will be possible to place multiple offers on the market simultaneously. In addition, the new trade system will offer more filtering and selection options.

This is a preview: The final design might differ!

    Guild Quests
Guilds will be getting some new features. The first feature will be guild quests. There will be 3 different types of guild quests (Note: This is not finalized). There will be weekly and daily tasks for multiple users. There will also be personal daily guild quests, which will apply separately to each member.

    Guild Function: Online Members
The online user display is connected to the chat system. Our plan is to provide you with the online user fix at the same time as the Guild Quest implementation.

    Future Features
There are more features that are in the progress/planning phase. Among other things, we’ve been working hard on the economic adventures and PVP. These two features require a lot of developement on game balancing and game design, therefore they will appear later. A new tutorial has also been in development and it will be implemented later in the year. One of the new components will be a distance indicator: If a building is constructed, the distance to the next store house or to the next deposit of resources will be displayed (see screenshot preview). Once we can give time estimates on when these larger scope projects are nearing completion, we will.

The plan to implement a feature to allow for relocation of buildings needs to consider all the people who have approached this system
as a "hobby/game hybrid". That is, there are many players who have invested quite a bit of time, real money and in-game resources
to create island layouts that are efficiently organized for both maintainability and aesthetic appeal. In many cases entire islands were
rebuilt and restructured more than once to achieve orderly production facilities.

To provide a "free" feature that would permit demolition and rebuild, would be a disservice to those individuals that have paid already for
destruction of existing buildings and subsequent reconstruction costs. In essence, this feature would reward people for haphazard
    building placement.

Since this is a "Sim" game, it it should reflect real life construction/reconstruction activities and costs. It is, therefore, suggested that
a "Rebuild Tax" be applied to relocation of any building.

It will definitely cost resources to move a building; I suspect a percentage cost of the value of the building.

Otherwise, there wouldn't be a "move building with gems" option.
