Need the option to decline trades if the reply comes in a day late and a dollar short

So you're trying to finish up a build or an upgrade - maybe you need 1000 hardwood or something - and you keep sending trade requests that don't get responded to.

So you keep sending requests, and you keep sending requests, and EVENTUALLY you find enough players that are online and paying attention to the offers they've posted (it's ONLY up for 10 minutes!).

So FINALLY you get your build or upgrade running with enough resources, but the next time you get on your mail is full of belated Accepts and Declines.

If it's a Decline, OK, thanks for wasting my time (it was ONLY up for 10 minutes!). I understand you probably had other things to do or wanted to go to bed after staying up so late - SO DID I.....But why didn't you Clear your trade before leaving???

If it's an Accept, ya, thanks but you're just a little too late. I don't need your trade any more and I'd like to just keep all the resources I kept throwing out there trying to find someone - you didn't stick around to honor your trade, so now I don't want to honor it either.

This trade system is actually pretty cool. It let's you farm resources and convert them into other things you want more. I really like it.

But I don't post a trade without sticking around to see the end of it (it's ONLY up for 10 minutes!). If I've sold down my own resource, or received enough of the resource I was looking for, I Clear my trade and try to honor any stragglers if I can.

But when I get late Accepts from people who didn't stick around to close their own trade out and I don't need or want what they were trying to sell, I'm just throwing my resources away.

And that kind of ticks me off.

    A) trades are up for as long as someone doesn't refresh their trade window, this can be 10min or it be 10hrs, i.e. if I open the trade tab and don't refresh it again for 30min none of those trades go away
B)personally, i often put up a trade right as I log out simply because only being able to post one type of trade every 10min is extremely annoying and i have way more than one or two types of resources i would like to convert and usually not more than 20min at a time to be online....so just because you prefer to be online for the full extent of a trade window doesn't mean that works for everyone, plus option A could have happened

@bergluns - thanks for the heads up on avoiding any trade you post.

I can't imagine that anyone expects every trade they click on to be accepted immediately, but knowing that you're intentionally logging out after posting one isn't what people would expect either.

Or did you think we wouldn't mind if you just held onto our resources while you were busy doing other things?

I agree with this thread -- the system is biased toward sellers. Resources should not be tied up until both parties have an equal chance to give final approval to a trade. As it stands now, even if an unscrupulous seller doesn't have the resources to trade, he can still hoard trade offers -- particularly if he managed to get a really good price in a market upswing -- and save them until the resource accumulates before finalizing the trade. In a game where time is a critical component of play, giving a seller your resources for a day so that he can guarantee his future prices while you get nothing in return really doesn't seem fair any way I look at it. It seems like something that should definitely be ironed out before any conversion to a possible pvp type of game.

lol @hobknocker @hortonswho, if you need a specific resource that badly how about posting your own trade at a slightly above market price....if let's say you needed that 1000hw planks for an upgrade, instead of trying to capitalize on all the good deals by buying from others and hoping they accept at your speed, the far easier and much more certain way to get what you need is to post a trade for say 18coins per hw stack (btw I just did this and got over 4k of hw planks offered within the trade window, all of which were very promptly rejected fyi)....that is the solution to "needing" a resource(s) and not wanting to wait on other people

That's pretty stupid logic. If we all decide not to buy other people's offers because they're possibly offline, then obviously there's no one left to buy OUR offers.

Duh. Maybe you could just stick around after posting a trade instead.

Hey, I understand people having other things to do - that's no problem with me.
And I know a lot of people are farming their excess resources - no problem.
I'd just like to finish my business within the 20-30 minutes I might be online.

I hadn't even thought of holding trades during market price swings.
That's pretty canny of some people (just to get a few more gold pieces).

All I'm saying is, I don't need your trade anymore, and I don't want it.
    Gimme my junk back.
Sellers do that to me more often than not.....

And I update my trade window often while searching for new items.
I thought the 10 minute timer would end the trade offer completely.

I guess you could say there are two types of trade:

Short trades where everyone's around to finalize everything.
Long trades where people post and leave to accumulate or farm resources.

If both seller and buyer are not in a hurry everything works out and and everyone's happy.

But if you're looking for a short trade, whether you're selling or buying,
both parties need to show up in a reasonable amount of time.

If you're looking for a short trade and the seller doesn't show up for a day or two
(or even several hours), the trade is no good any more because the buyer's "need" is no longer present.

The seller is able to Decline any trade they do not wish to fulfill.
The Buyer must always accept any trade whether they want it now or not.

    Well, I'm usually cash-poor.
So I'm looking to trade resources I have for resources I need if I can.

I post trades all the time.
But at that point you're looking for that specific person
who needs what you have, and has what you need.
Without just giving everything you have away.

    Many times I'm successful.
But most times I am not.
Plus trying to figure a deal someone will bite at.
Plus waiting 10 minutes to post the next trade.

I know there are plenty of price guides out there,
that doesn't mean someone will pay that amount or want what you have.
Even if you offer a favorable deal.

I just want to be able to Decline all those extra trades - the way you did.
