Use Recruits to kill the Guard Dogs if they are by themselve.

If the Guard dogs are in a Bandit leader camp with a boss, you must use Cavalry to kill them.

i kill guard dogs in normal camps by sending wave after wave of my own men at them

since they're going to die, i use only recruits on the first wave or two and save my good units for the last fight

i'm thinking about buying a second general soon
