Economy Overview is great - future expansion?
The new Economy Overview is a great tool for finding bottlenecks and broken supply chains.
I spent a lot of time with it on the Test server and really liked it.
I'm glad they were able to push it live so quickly.
I didn't think it was that close to release.
Viewing the Consumption and Production lists of an item is really useful.
And I can even jump right to a facility on the map by clicking through an item in the list.
I think one thing that would really make it more flexible than it already is
would be to connect the vertical supply chains from bottom all the way to
the top of each chain for easier navigation.
Right now it's only from the top down.....
I guess this could be done with an overall tech tree type interface,
or simply allowing a click-thru a facility displayed on a page under
Production or Consumption to the next higher level of the tree.
As an example:
I noticed that my pine logs registered a deficit.
OK, go to Resources and click into pine logs - 7k Production
Shoot, what the heck is using all these pine logs?
OK, open up Consumption - sawmills and cokers.
Holy cow! 6k just for the cokers!
OK, cokers make coal.
Go back to Resources and click into Coal.
OK, consumption, smelters - copper, iron, steel, gold; weaponsmiths - bronze, iron, steel.
Wow, look at all those iron smelters.
OK, iron smelters make iron ingots.
Go back to Resources and click into iron ingots.
(all right, now there's a tree for ya!)
Open up ingots for Production and Consumption.
Yeah, there it is.
Those upgraded smelters and weaponsmiths really guzzle the coal.
Now if there were a complete 'resource tree' (tech tree) interface you could move up and down each chain,
navigating in and out of each branch looking for problems.
Or even if you were able to click-thru on the cokers to get to coal,
and then click-thru on the smelters to get to iron ingots,
you could whiz back and forth browsing up and down a chain
till you found what you were looking for.
Yeah, I know, who doesn't know that coal comes from cokers and iron ingot comes from iron smelters.
But everyone might not realize all the different places some of the resources and their by-products
come from and eventually end up. Plus finding them and getting there on each chain.
If you're at the top of the tree (and know where to look to begin with) you get the big picture.
If your at the bottom of the tree, you have to figure out where to go next.
And as you move up one branch, you don't see all the other parallel branches that go into an item
until you reach the very top.
Just thinking of an easy way to navigate up and down a chain.....
