Settlers Online Code of Conduct and Forum Rules

The Code of Conduct is a guide for Ubisoft customers playing The Settlers Online and contributing to the official forums. Ubisoft defines the rules and what is considered a breach of the rules, and reserves the right to modify its position at any moment. Disregarding any of the rules of this Code may lead to your account(s) being suspended or closed.

    Responsibility:
Ubisoft cannot be held responsible for the actions or comments made by players in the various areas of the game and forums. Information published by users is done so under their sole responsibility. Ubisoft nevertheless reserves the right to remove any and all content published by a user without prior warning.

We strongly advise you not to give personal information to any third party, which could be used to identify you (social security number, telephone number, physical address, etc.). Also please note that Ubisoft will never ask you for your password.
    Code of Conduct:
When you play The Settlers Online, you must respect other players and their user rights. The following points must be respected by all, and will be enforced by the Ubisoft staff:
    1. Any suspected breach of the Code of Conduct will lead to further investigation by Ubisoft staff. Ubisoft reserves the right to suspend any player's account without prior warning and start any procedure it deems necessary. Ubisoft can forbid or remove any actions, communication or content visible during use of the Settlers Online Services if it judges them to be contrary to the laws in force at the time or detrimental to other members, Ubisoft staff or Ubisoft's right in general.
    2. When using the services proved by Ubisoft, players vow not to engage in any illegal behavior or communication.
    3. The player vows to respect the rules of conduct detailed in this Code of Conduct, when using the services offered by the Settlers Online game. The following list of forbidden conduct gives some examples of unacceptable behavior, but should not be considered as exhaustive. Generally speaking, it is forbidden to try and harm other members or misuse the tools made available.
    4. At its complete discretion, Ubisoft reserves the right to remove and sanction any behavior or publication that is considered unacceptable within the game and its forums.
    5. The player will follow all instructions given to them by Ubisoft staff or Moderators. Noncompliance of any request received from Ubisoft or Moderators will be considered a breach of the Code of Conduct and may lead to penalty.
    6. Any discussion or exchange with any Ubisoft staff is considered private. It is forbidden to copy/paste your exchange on the forum or on the chat.
    7. We will not accept any complaining about Ubisoft staff or the rules on the public channels and any such behavior will result in disciplinary actions. If you wish to report abusive moderating please send a ticket to Support.
    Forbidden conduct:
Under no circumstances may a player use the services offered by Ubisoft for the following:
    1. It is forbidden to harass or offend another player or group of players. Ubisoft will not tolerate any form of harassment and may sanction the user. Generally speaking, any conduct aimed at hurting another player is forbidden.
    2. It is forbidden to publish pornographic or sexually explicit content via the tools made available by Ubisoft.
    3. Any content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, ethnically offensive, constituting harassment, or any other type of questionable content is forbidden.
    4. Players vow not to use the identity of another person or a member of the Ubisoft team. Ubisoft cannot be held responsible for remarks made or advice given by a user.
    5. Public denouncement regarding cheating is not permitted whether it be multi accounting, trade scamming or any forbidden activity of that type.
    6. Any conduct aimed at disrupting the smooth running of the game, site or forums is forbidden. Similarly, it is strictly forbidden to use the supports offered by Ubisoft for advertising purposes. This includes posting links to projects that ask for donations.
    7. The player vows to respect the law in its entirety. Whether voluntarily or accidentally, it is forbidden to contravene any local, federal, national or international law.
    8. It is forbidden to abuse or exploit any bugs, anomalies, development errors or problems arising during the game. Under no circumstances is a player authorized to use a function for anything other than its intended use.
    9. Using a third party program to circumvent certain restrictions of the game is forbidden. Using programs or tools for pirating/modifying/fraud will result in immediate termination of the account, and may even give rise to personal liability and/or penal penalties.
    10. Any action aimed at retrieving or modifying the game code is forbidden. You are forbidden to interfere with or try to decode any transmissions to or from the servers linked to The Settlers Online. Any such behavior will result in the immediate cancellation of the account, and may even give rise to personal liability and/or penal penalties.
    11. Any requests, promotion, advertising or linking of content protected by copyright for illegal purposes is strictly forbidden. The linking, naming or discussing of crackers, cracker crews and/or download networks is also prohibited. These rules also apply to leaks and other Internet software obtained illegally.
    12. Any conduct that Ubisoft, at its complete discretion, deems contrary to the "spirit of the game" is forbidden.
    13. Any action that aims to acquire a bonus by misuse of a game function is forbidden. Using more than one account with the aim of giving an advantage to one of them – sometimes referred to as "pushing" – will result in the closure of all accounts involved. This does mean that the use of multiple game accounts on a single server is forbidden.
    14. Any discussion or circulation of exploits or cheats is not permitted, and may lead to exclusion from the service. Cheats and exploits should only be reported directly to the Customer Support team.
    15. Any reference or invitations to petitions and boycotts will be stopped, depending on the type and situation, and may result in action taken against an account.
    16. So-called "role play" is not an acceptable excuse for breaking any of the rules noted herein.
    Naming of characters and alliances:
The following rules clarify the types of names that you may not use, and are valid for both first names and alliances.
    1. You may not use a name that is contrary to the Code of Conduct. This includes the use of names of a hateful, racist, defamatory, ethnically offensive, obscene, vulgar or sexually explicit nature, as well as any other offensive wording.
    2. You may not use names that lead to the harassment or slander of other users.
    3. You may not use the name of any BlueByte or Ubisoft employee, including nicknames or abbreviations that are similar.

    9. You may not use any name that breaks any of the aforementioned rules via the association of the first name and surname.
    10. You may not use a name containing spelling mistakes or written in such a way as to break one of the aforementioned rules.
    Account security:
The client alone is responsible for the security of their account, including protecting their computer system and account password from piracy. Regardless, Ubisoft vows to advise the user if they think that their account security is threatened. If an account turns out to have been stolen or used by an unauthorized third party, further investigation will be made by Ubisoft staff, during which time the account will be blocked.

Ubisoft does not guarantee compensation for any damages caused by fraudulent use of an account. Only the results of the investigation can determine the necessary action. Any act of account piracy or theft will be punished and may give rise to personal liability or penal penalties for the guilty party.

Please send any questions on the subject of data protection direct to our head office, and do not discuss them in the forum. Such threads will be immediately closed or deleted. Please contact Blue Byte GmbH, Adlerstraße 74, 40211 Düsseldorf, Germany for issues relating to data protection.
