Trying to kill guard dogs

I was told twhen trying to take out a bandit camp with guard dogs and no leader to send recruits in first. I sent in 80 recruits to kill 40 dogs all of the recruits died but no dogs just a few thugs. I have done this twice what am I doing wrong.

If there is a Boss with the Guard Dogs, The Guard dogs will not be hit and the Boss (Leader) will absorb all the damage.

What you are doing wrong is not using the combat simulator. Often, the dogs will need a full (200) wave of recruits, or cavalry, to take them out, but you can't really know what will happen unless you use the sim. There are several good ones, German and American, identified forum posts. Make sure you list everything that is in the camp, and not just what you want to kill.
