How to Utilise/Assign unemployed settlers?

I am new to the game.

I noticed that there are unemployed settlers. How do I utilise them? How do I assign them to particular jobs?

you can turn them into troops or you can build new buildings or mines. Woodcutters, foresters etc.

First off, welcome to the game
You cannot assign them, other than assign them to being a certain type of troop (ie recruit, militia etc). If you build a new building the settlers will automatically go there to work, one settler per building, including wells, mines etc.

Take solace in knowing that soon, you will never have enough unemployed settlers, and will constantly be trying to find bread to build more, depending on your play style of course lol
