I have passed the year here and more now, . I think in their rush to open up the game to a wider playing field they where not fully prepared for the amount of interest it would garner, nor the troubles it would cause merging with Settlers, Possibly they intended to do this all along, but if they could have gotten the game laid out and events lined up to add as they went along, instead of seeming to suddenly have to rush design them, it would have been a lot better, would have slowed thier income flow some, but think it would have been better in the long run for both company and the players, they would not be having all the head aches, [ complaints, break downs, ect] and the players would be better satisfied with things to look forward to, and getting them on time as promised, not delayed till a future date..
I will stay cause of friends here, and see what happens just not on as long or as much. Lady Terra is right there are loads of other games, out there,

When the events came out last year, they were truly new. There really was stuff to work towards, to help guild members obtain. With the events repeating themselves this year, we find that players here for the events last year are being left out. Most of those that played the events last year got whatever special items there was to get. This year we find that the caps on the special items hasn't been lifted or extended. Established players lose out.
Is this the way all the events are going to go throughout the rest of the events to come? Are we really supposed to be enticed by worthless buildings (i.e school house) and nerfed buffs?
I really think that at this point I would step away, but wait a minute...guilds aren't fixed yet. Over a year and still there is no option to switch guild leadership, no way to give one officer co-leadership, no way for officers to accept or decline guild quests (total waste of development effort), or to increase guild house membership slots.
So BB and UBI, its time to get off the fence. Either make the game interesting for all your players (not just the new ones) or make it possible for players like myself can leave with no loose ends.

All games have a shelf-life. I'm okay with that. I already have a couple games that are replacing this one. If BB/UBI think they are better off with new players, I'm okay with that too. Just make it easier for us long-term players to move on.
so is this true like 100% this game is going no where and in a hurry. im new to this game but **** i didn't think the devlopers would allow this to go on... this is sad.

not smoke and mirrors, is business plan of most businesses today, heard em in, take their money, herd em out,.... they honestly care not about anyone who buys gems over a long term basis

I'm also coming up on one year of playing. And, while I still play regularly, I was dismayed to hear that long term players couldn't get another general just because they got one last year at Halloween. How sad for them ... and how sad for those of us who might have looked forward to next Halloween and yet another different general or scout or geologist to add to our staff list. More, like some players, I thought that this special event wasn't really very special ... I guess what I missed was the chance to do different quests like in the soccer event and the easter egg event. Those were very interactive and interesting to do. Growing pumpkins is passive activity and the dark and light buffs lost their charm in less than an hour. i'm not in a guild and don't really want to be ... (tried that in another game and it was just awful) ... not interested in PvP - tried that when gladiatus went to "everyone on any server can attack anyone on any other server" and it was a disaster. I hope that the developers listen to the longer term players and take their messages seriously. This is a great game, but I see it grinding slowly downward.

As a level 48 player, I could not agree more with the Original Poster and even EpsilonSilver on the games focus. Most level 50s go inactive within a month of becoming level 50. As game developers, you SHOULD be asking yourself why that is.

I watch chat, have been in guilds, and overall, I feel this game is beginning to die. Most of the hyperactive players are gone, its becoming harder and harder to get players to buy loot spots, etc.

while i respect all of you and your many helpful forum posts, you are only seeing "one side of the coin". LadyTerra, I'm sure you were able to take your barracks and provision house to level 5 without losing a week's worth of production. That didn't happen for newer players. I'm equally sure, with the latest uproar, you received gems beginning at level 32, and no doubt used them to help you reach 40 more quickly than is now possible.

I agree, and have stated, that features should be be added for the many level 50 players (idk why they are still here)

But please don't sound so self-serving, that there is a "benefit" to newer players, because there is not.
