Way I see it...
1. StrongMe made an honest mistake posting 50k bread for 1 stone instead of 1 watermill.
2. She wasn't putting up that outrageous an offer for watermills if both sides are happy with the deal then it is a fair and equitable transaction. (I picked up a dozen of them for 1500-1700 coins which is lower than they normally sell for but supply had gone up which sent prices spiraling down).
3. LadyEm saw a good trade and so accepted it (we all would have done this, people quit and give away their resources all the time). However in this instance both parties were not happy with the transaction since StrongMe made a mistake and did not really seek 1 stone for 50k bread.
4. After finding out that StrongMe had indeed made a mistake and decided to zealously seek to correct it in any way s/he could in order to avoid a set back (this was done through a threat of reporting), LadyEm decided to use this as justification for keeping the bread instead of taking the high road and being the bigger person.
5. StrongMe will recover from this incident, but LadyEm (having done nothing illegal) will take a hit to her reputation since we all expect people to conduct themselves with the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and fairness doing nothing that is either illegal or unethical because no one wants to deal with someone who is untrustworthy and who we fear won't give us a fair trade.
6. It should be common practice to treat others as you would like to be treated. It's exactly like the scenario where you are given too much change when purchasing an item, you can keep it or you can give it back because that is the right thing to do and if you had made the same mistake you would expect the person to whom you gave the extra money to give it back.
Final Thoughts - LadyEm, forgive strongme, send the resources back and accept strongme's sincerest apology for being unable to convey his/her thoughts in a kinder way that was easier for you to understand. Strongme doesn't seem to be the most capable English writer but if we were speaking his/her language we would likely make many faux pas ourselves. I'm sure you are a good person and want to be known as fair and just, as slow to anger and quick to forgive. In forgiving and returning the resources, especially with strongme's threat, you will show yourself to be an exceptional individual who is worthy of all our admiration.
Cheers,
Falcian
P.S. Sorry about the length I hadn't expected to write so much when I first began this post.
dude i have posted a hundred dumb trades like you did, every time it was nabbed, sometimes by a friend keeping me from being stupid, this is your own fault that you lost your bread, seriously quit whining
royalpayne, was it right for you to lose out on those trades? Would you have told the person to keep the resources because they deserved them for taking advantage of your foolishness? Should we operate under the premise that taking advantage of others is acceptable behavior?
You know I got to say they are both wrong/right. Any of us would like for the player who accepted to give us our stuff back, yes it is a mistake. A dumb mistake that most of us have done. Why are yall arguing over this so bad? Some very ugly personal attacks. We all know what the right thing to do would be.. But you cannot make someone else do the right thing.
Actually what some of us are arguing about is what the right thing to do is, as some people don't see that anything wrong was done. At least that's why I'm here, to point out the fact that there are some very shady people out there who don't care about right and wrong!
***sighs***
No one is perfect but some should have computer etiquette like auction etiquette. This is not RL no but if this was done to you would you like the person to return you stuff? If this was RL would you hope that the person that caught your mistake be kind hearted enough to give it back? Really it boils down to what would you truely want to happen if this was you?
50K!! Bargain
8 pages of arguments over some virtual bread, how can you tell everyone is bored with the servers down?
Something that hasn't been brought up is the fact that games are just games at the end of the day. What I mean by that is when I play a game I enjoy being someone that I am not in real life. In many games I will be dishonest, cruel, steal, and do other things that I wouldn't think of doing in real life. It is one of the ways that I have fun and enjoy the games that I play. Many of the people playing this game might get some of their enjoyment by doing things and saying things that they wouldn't dream of in real life. In game morality is, in my opinion, whatever gives the player a fun and enjoyable experience for them. Real life morality should not be expected in any game in my opinion.
With that being said I agree that what happened was a mistake, and definitely not fair or equitable if something similar to it happened in real life. Settlers trade is the wild wild west, and I am sure the OP has learned from their mistake and will not double, and triple, check their trades in the future.
