If you lost 1200 units fighting an enemy camp and only killed 90 dogs then you're clearly doing something wrong. 90 Cavs will kill 90 dogs no matter what other units are present in the camp.

It might be worth your time to go over the combat system and learn to work a combat simulator so you know what you're getting in to.
