Guild Quests: What happens to the resources?

I've found a number of discussions on the large amounts of resources you're expected to pay that is not worth the reward you get back for guild quests. I don't understand that either, but I accept it as part of the game but just one I don't like very much.

But the question that I'm really curious about is, What happens to those resource you and everyone pays?
Does the guild receive them and use them for some purpose?
Are they just lost and absorbed back into the virtual world?

These quests are resource sinks. It helps to bring balance to the game, especially on servers where it is high level player heavy. All resource games have this "feature". Usually hidden in some kind of transaction fee or academy license.

Yep... All the resource you pay get thrown into cyberspace never to be seen again..... :P
