I ended a battle with the only unit on either side being my general (with full heath), but the game still reports "your army lost a battle and is retreating"
Is this a bug or do you need units besides the general at the end to win a battle?

Good question. I would guess the answer is yes, as strange as it sounds.
If something can go wrong, it will.
