The Settlers franchise might not be new, but for Blue Byte, the Settlers Online is a new venture. It's all browser based instead of launcher based. There is different code and different headaches that come along with a browser based online game. You now deal with multiple servers worldwide verses running 1 server globally for players to match make on with a retail launcher game. Retail vs Free 2 Play is different. I know that "arm chair" programmers can state it's easy, if it was, then why don't those players have a successful online MMO game themselves? Why aren't they working for a game company that has successful online browse games?
2. They have not given up on TSO. Anno is not the only game that Blue Byte has been working on. Silent Hunter and M&M Heroes Online as well. As I've stated in a few posts on this thread, it would be very foolish for any studio to only work on one project and not work on something else while their current game is out. If this is how the industry worked, it would be DEAD. Every studio starts working on pre-production of their next game while their soon to be released game is in it's final bug testing phase. By the time game A hits retail, game B is now in the starting phase.
The Settlers Online is doing very well for a Free 2 Play for Ubisoft. The BB dev members that are working on fixes and new content for TSO truly care about the game. Blue Byte is learning from what they did right and what they did wrong. I truly believe that they will get it done this year with all of their projects.
I know that it sucks to have been waiting for PvP since 2011, but if you were basing this game all off having PvP, that wasn't the best idea. There are many PVP based time management sims. BB started off doing something different with not having PVP which set the game apart from the others. The majority of the player base enjoys this fact. The dev team that had to be careful with how the implemented PVP. They can't force the majority player base that have been enjoying the PVE with Player Trading into a PVP free for all. That is why in November they released the diary stating how it would work. Opt in PvP where you get a new island to push resources for. They are taking their time to get it right instead of just slapping it together. I'm pretty sure that no matter how good the PVP is or how functional it is, a loud minority still won't be happy.
Enjoy the game for what it is now.
Updates will be coming "soon."
