Don't rush to level up. There's always something to do in game but if you are simply rushing just to get to the next level you will bleed yourself of resources and make it a hundred times harder to continue leveling later.
Protip - When deciding where to place a workyard that requires a deposit, place the workyard so that the deposit is directly at its door. This will save you more travel time than you'd think. Don't let the term "Deposit Missing" fool you. Trust me, it's there. Try it for yourself.

You cannot move storehouses. So place them carefully so that you have enough spots to place production buildings around them.
Quickest way to level 50 is by doing nords adventures and Black knight, and while you run them you sell the loot spots for gold coin that you can use for upgrades or to buy more adventures in TO.
Protip - quickest way to 50 is Surprise attack. Nords and Black knight follow. Surprise attack gives more xp per "hour of barracks time" then nords does, making it the fastest adv to level with. However nords and Surprise attack lose you money each adventure. Do RB, SFTR, BK, outlaws for pretty good XP while MAKING money as you level.
tip 1 if you run low on hardwood planks or marble, make them in the provisions house using pine wood, and stone plan it to work while you are off line and be ready when you return.

Pro tip - Special resources
Trade for special event resources like pumpkins eggs soccer balls and presents inbetween the yearly event people are willing to get rid of them really cheap
