If you are new sell the buffs you get as rewards like "exotic fruit baskets" in the TO for 200+gc and use this money to upgrade and advance.

In the long run you need resources like exotic wood, saltpeter, titanium granite that you can only get from adventures and explorers on treasure searches. Since you need explorers to find most adventures it all comes down to them. Use gold to buy them but you will hit a limit and need gems later

2 and 3 player adventures can be completed alone however, you can invite a second and third player so they can get the resource reward. This invitation is commonly referred to as a loot spot. The invited player(s) must attack and kill at least 1 unit of an enemy camp in the adventure, to receive the reward.

You can offer to sell a loot spot in the Trade chat. Be sure to have the adventure near completion and be aware of what unit the loot spotter must bring to get a kill. Also an estimated time of completion is appreciated.
