Build up as much gold coins as you can before and during an event. That way, instead of just earning them, you have an extra cushion to buy eggs, pumpkins, etc. in case you need to buy the extra to get something you really need in the trade office.

Alot of tips are about getting ahead faster or playing most efficiently.
Faster usually = leveling up faster. Though it can also mean clearning your island or getting through an adventure faster with fewer losses. This can mean skipping battles, or using a trick to get past an outpost to attack the leader camp directly. (This is called blocking).
Efficiently usually = economic profitable. knowing the value of everything and determining what is profitable and what is not.
Both of those are fine play styles. But it is possible to play for other reasons. for the joy of building something, the joy of planing and finishing a plan, being a part of a comunity.
If your more interested in one of these other play styles, don't let all the talk of what is faster, or worth it, bother you. Play your own way and enjoy filling up your island.

for an adventure quest send all your troops over in the beginning of the quest so you don't have to wait for a hour for troops from home. it gives you more time to get more exp points.

One way I made friends early on was to watch my trades.
Anytime I sold something I would extend a friend request to the player who bought my goods.
After I had a several freinds, I started being a little more discerning.
I would watch and see if I sold things to the same player a couple of times.
Or of the same player bought things from me more than once.
After awhile I had a lot of friends. I would visit each one, drop a few small bufs, and leave.
If the friend did not return the buff or reply at all after a couple such visits, i would drop them.
Then when I joined a guild, I stopped adding any new friends and mostly concentrated on my guildmates.

Do spend some time looking at other player's layouts.
You will start to see some patterns of where certain buildings are generally put.
If you follow the convention, then when other people visit you, they will be able to find things to buff easier.
Like Gold buildings are often in the last section of the island, the one with 4 gold mines.
That way if other players want to buff your gold, they can find it easier.
If you put some important building in an obscure place, people may not see it and it may not get buffed as much.

on the early game, don't afraid to use your gold coin to buy stuff to upgrade your island such as: marble, hardwood,... The sooner you get to high level for adventure, the more gold you have. You can get much more resources and gold when you can do adventure.
