Since there is a feature to ignore users, which is /ignoreadd username, why not just use that if you are offended by what you see?

Furthermore, parents are bound by the Terms of Use, http://ubi.com/US/Info/Info.aspx?tagname=TermsOfUse and need to take responsibility for what their children do on the Internet.
See Sec. 4, ACCESS AND TERMS SPECIFIC TO MINORS

I appreciate what you want here, but in my opinion you are being unrealistic.

The benefits of a mod is that the players causing these problems are dealt with right away. it can take 1-3 business days to start the ban, plenty of time to spread more havoc.

Also, it generates a safe place for players to play in. You wouldn't want to play in a street of gangs selling (you know what), nor would you want to play in a game with bad chat.

(ps atomic, there is a "Edit post" button right below your post you can use to edit words, helps with you not needing to use 2 posts to fix one.

I am getting as real as it gets here under the circumstances.

Like the BB said: "If you do see someone under the age of 13 in the game, for their safety, they should be reported."

Thats 13! i didn't know a single bad word at all at that age!

You must have a parent create your account. after that, (if i am correct) you are legally free of any age issues. But still 13 y/olds will be playing, and kids younger than that!

This game is in a cartoon like setting. Anno Online is more realistic, I would give a bit more there, but here, where the very game core is cartoon, i would expect more protection for kids than what we see.

Again, this isn't a rage post, especially since i can't do much anyway, but this is ridiculous to play in a PLAYER protected environment!

(a recap on the word "player". since i am arguing that there are bad players out there, with bad language, why on earth are you using players? its like a judge who has committed the same crime as what he is judging!)

First of all, parents need to monitor what their kids are doing online.
If they are not, shame on them. If they are, and still let their kids into the cesspool of global-1, shame on them.

Secondly, as per the Terms of Use, we should have no way of knowing the ages of minors.

ACCESS AND TERMS SPECIFIC TO MINORS:
"If you are a parent or guardian, UBISOFT recommends that you monitor your children's online activities. To protect your children's privacy, UBISOFT advises you to check that your children never disclose their personal data without your prior consent."

Any parent consenting to their child mentioning their age in an Internet chat, well, shame on them.

    3.2 Rules of Conduct.
    7. "solicit personal information or data from anyone under 18 years of age"

Thus, from a legal standpoint to ask the age of anyone under 18 is a violation of the TOS.

I just do not get why you do not get that what you want is not feasible.

Since there are so many alternatives to some innocent kid being exposed to unsavory words of text in the global window, ie. /ignoreadd, closing chat window, staying out of global, creating an account on the European servers, http://www.thesettlersonline.com/en, where they have Player mods, or any number of interventions, I just do not see your argument as valid.

In fact, not to be obtuse, I sense from your biased poll questions and the overall tone of you post, that it's YOU who are offended most by the obscenity and vulgarity you see in Global-1.
It never ceases to amaze me that people refuse to simply avoid seeing what offends them when they have the means at hand to do so.

Anyway, I wish you the best on your quest.

I know there is an edit post button. But I choose not to use it. Posts that have been edited seem fishy to me and unnatural.

The majority of players are over 18. And the underage players should be supervised by their parent, its not Ubisoft's or BB's responsibility to parent and babysit these kids. If something dangerous is happening, they step in when notified. That's all that is necessary.

If people are adults they should be mature enough to monitor their actions and language as a matter of respect to others. Unfortunately most of the offensive discussion in global 1 is generated by adults as well as minors.

Player mods do exist in the realm of ubisoft and Settlers, basically everywhere except the USA servers.

I am far over the age of 18 and I find global at times anywhere from offensive to disgusting, mostly because it is a pitiful excuse of an example of our current standards of acceptable social norms and behavior.

I have , in the past posted many " reports" via the " report" function, unfortunately I feel those get "lost in the ethernet" over 90 percent of the time.

I have in the past posted many " support tickets" for offensive global chat and have always gotten a reply from the BB staff that they would investigate the situation.

I have to say that following the BB staff recommendations of asking people to move to another global channel or discontinue their convo's in global, only results in the person asking getting trolled, bullied and abused even more. It is totally counter productive.

Asking the players who find global offensive to relocate, use " ignore" etc, etc, is not fixing the problem , it is actually helping to facilitate the continuance of the already existing problem.

Eventually, apathy sets in, since this has been an ongoing issue for for the past few years, and people who do care to try and make a difference just give up.

Bottom line, monitoring global has always been an issue, and until BB grows a set and actually PRO-ACTIVELY does something consistently and purposefully, this will continue to be an ongoing issue.

For the record, one of the reasons my wife, and many other players I know, have quit playing this game, is because of this " non monitored/global chat/trolling/offensive language/ inappropriate topics" issue.

I lost interest in the "social" atmosphere of the game after about the first year and a half, due to apathy and disgust over this never ending cycle of global chat nonsense, and basically only talk in guild chat with fellow guild members.

So, in essence, the "keep it clean" players lose out, and the " we can say what we want" players continue to run global.

I have also noticed this attitude that, "money buys the ability to talk BS" in this game, seems to be the current new acceptable norm.

If that is the case, allow me to exercise my paid for BS rights. *)(&)&*^%#$^%^*&)*&%^$@#^$&*)

There I feel better now, thank you.
    Happy Gaming Everyone !

    I agree with you ES.
