It doesn't take months to select staff (or players if needed) to monitor and police chat. The game is 24/7, monitoring needs to be 24/7. And asking players to report it isn't the way to solve the situation either. Plenty of times I make a report and NOTHING happens.
BB has allowed Global chat to become a sewer free-for-all. If I had pre-teens, I wouldn't let them anywhere near this game, as there is no way to turn global off. Community makes up a huge portion of playing this game, why bother to play if the community is nothing but aggression and filth.

I'm not sure how other servers global-1 chat's are, but I can say without a doubt that Ares has a pretty good player based moderation here. With that, I am not saying you will not have the occasional person or two that present a lack of mental filter. Since this is a "community" based game and made up of people and the lot on global do a decent job at monitoring the content on it. You will have incidents where a BB is needed, but to say it needs monitoring 24/7 is a little bit drastic in my opinion. I personally do not like my boss hovering over me 24/7 while I am work picking out every false move (not saying having a BB in chat is like that, but you get the point). I prefer having a BB step in to a matter like this is an end game type of move.

Back to the matter at hand ( in case I have rambled on), global-1 in ares is for the most part, pg-13. As said above, if it steps into crazy land, you have people that suggest a change in scenery i.e) whisper, global change or a cease of topic discussion (You get the point). As stated above, I feel it is a little drastic to attempt to force a Ubisoft employee to monitor global chat rooms 24/7 on top of their current duties (whatever they may be).

Having a 24/7 mod is fiscally ridiculous.

The best they can do is stagger the times they come on so as to be unpredictable.

We really need more compassionate self monitoring.

I've seen this thread in every MMO or other online cooperative environment I've been in, with this thread's same complaint. The above inevitably also is posted. It's absurd on its face, but there it is. If -- and only if -- there was no /ignore function, would it have weight; otherwise, removing intentionally offensive people is a matter of ease. In some games, the /ignore list was of a limited length, often easily reached, and thankfully those games were moddable to extend if not the actual /ignore function at least to replicate its function: that you didn't see messages from people you wanted to ignore.

This is a far more adult approach to any subjective problem (be it subjectively offensive language, spamming, or just uttering the mind-shatteringly foolish or insipidly inane) than to demand others act in a certain way and requiring a gaming company to directly police it (the former being draconian and the latter fairly unfeasible).

I'm often shocked at how parents shield their children as if they are fragile objects of the thinnest spun glass -- as if they had forgotten their own childhoods or precisely how strong and resilient children are. Lets I run afoul of parents or other adults I had contact with, as a youth, I restricted my range of language to what was considered socially acceptable in that particular group; however, by the age of 7, I was familiar with both vulgar and obscene language -- a combination of environment and parent who understood a prepared child is a safer child.

Perhaps it is my persistent curiosity regarding language (it's structure, it's utilization in social evolution, the changing implementation of words and word forms, etc) that I am little offended by the words people use rather than the attitudes they communicate with them. Vulgar words may contain a gentle embrace while smooth, erudite words may contain hostility, intolerance, threat, and a desire to deprive and control.

Egregiousness should be reported; other offensiveness ignored, either with controls or with the simple elegance of mental discipline and tolerance (in the dictionary sense, not the political sense, of the word).

I voted 'no' in the OP's obviously biased poll, in case it wasn't obvious.

I ignore all of Global 1 by not going there. I vote with my feet.

Have you watched any Primetime TV? the sexual content and language far exceed what goes on in global now. As a parent letting your child use any form of media unsupervised shouldn't be allowed. to expect an internet based gaming company to moderate a chat room 24/7 is kind of foolish if you ask me. i got a suggestion PARENTS DO YOUR JOB and not leave it to someone/company who knows where to do it for you

This conversation had already run its course back in May. Please pay attention to the most recent post date and what has already been said before necroing a thread.

Our CS Lead replied on 5/17 offering some excellent tips to deal with unwanted chat:

We do the best we can with our resources to ensure this happens. I just want to say that this message has been heard. There are several things that you can do in the mean time to help us make the community more positive:

We receive complaints through customer support tickets about inappropriate chat. If the violations are found to be accurate, the offender could face a chat ban, no matter when the comments were made (yesterday, two hours ago, 5 minutes ago). A chat ban removes access from global channels, guild chat, trade and help chat. Think about this before you engage in inappropriate chat in global-1. If you want to talk about something else, simply take it to another global channel. There, people have the choice to join the conversation and it is a self moderated community. Remember that if a moderator is called to another global channel, the same rules will be enforced.

We aren't here to restrict anyone and we don't like having to ban but when it is necessary to protect others from offensive language or harassment, we will.. I, personally, would much rather everyone talk about rainbows and puppy dogs and be happy!

Things you can do to protect yourself:

    1. Report violations with avatar names and times of infractions through a support ticket.
    2. Use the /ignore feature in the game chat
    3. Join a different global channel
    4. Ask community members, nicely, to take their chat somewhere private and don't engage.

We depend on everyone to help build an awesome community (which we have) and hope that we will be able to better address your concerns.

    What we will do:

    1. BB_Effiluna and I will make sure that this thread gets to the right place to start the appropriate conversation.
    2. Always listen to your complaints, when posed professionally, in an unbiased manner.
