You obviously have not been following up on the problems of the new residence building. :-)
That residence building you speak of takes up a lot of space. so if your island is getting crowded, you're not going to want that residence building because it will eat up 5 nobles worth of space- and give you only 140 population count (no upgrade). 5 nobles full upgrade = 350 pop.
the new castle takes up 4 nobles worth of space. and does nothing but upgrade beanstalks. once you buy gold towers with ur beanstalks it just sits there 'zzzz'.
Woo hoo cant wait for the Quartermaster General and the new residences! ..what I'm assuming the some new building's will take up license's?
On Zeus, wheat goes for about .015 gold coin which means 50 wheat equals .75 gold coin. In the tower 50 wheat makes 1 gold bar which with the cost of the buff taken out is worth about .48 gold coin. The tower loses you .25 gold coin every 50 minutes. Not a good deal.

I'm very happy to read about the NEW FTA 3.0 changes.
Magnificent residence can now hold 500 settlers and it fits a T shape (4nobles size instead of 5).
Gold Tower now uses only 1 wheat instead of 50.
And new General 270 !
Now if only they can improve the settlers 2 HQ building population to be 100 or more.
