Artemus Anthracite was born in hard coal country. His daddy was a miner, so was his grand daddy and his great grandaddy. He knows his coal. He knows the look, the feel, the smell and even the taste of a coal seam nestled in the rocks. Sticking his finger in a mountain brook he can taste the tiniest hint of metamorphosed carbon in the water. If there's coal in them there hills, Arty will find it.

George the Jolly Geologist
Not only does his name involve some joyful alliteration, but this was my father's name. After serving in the military in the early island days, he worked as a surveyor, dividing the island into nine districts and mapping the land for plottable sites. Then for awhile he was a civil engineer, helping to build the various buildings that would make up our island city. In his middle years he was a cartographer, making the maps that the explorers would use on adventure, though many were shredded by a competitor causing explorers to sometimes only find fragments. Finally, tired of sitting in an office in the mayor's house, yearning for fresh air, he became a geologist, still able-bodied and quick; he knows this island better than his children, having served it since its birth.
[This story embodies what I know of my own father's career paths, starting with his time served in the Korean War.]

BlackDust because he spends soo much time with iron, he is covered in black dusts that leaves a smokely trail when the wind blows.

Geo George, was abused as a child my being locked in a cave at the back of his evil stepfathers estate. His eyes adjusted quickly to the dark and his food was whatever minerals he got from the ground. He learned by tasting to find the best metals and deposits. After a few years of scrounging he found enough precious stones and metals to afford some good tools. Hard work and, if I may say it, good taste allowed him to earn enough money that he now owns the estate. His stepfather now digs for ore with his bare hands for George.

John Henry. After the great John Henry who fought the steam engine. He raced the steam engine in a mining race. He won but died at the end.
