Censoring Problems
I would like to know why it is that when I type the word "g a y" or "l e s b i a n" it is censored in chat. This associates these words with negative connotations and I think that this is hugely problematic. Why are these words treated as taboo when the individuals to whom they apply use them to describe themselves? In my opinion, this is unacceptably discriminatory.

The issue you are asking about would only cause unnecessary arguments here in the forum.
There is no discrimination intended here.
These words are censored because there are too many morons out there that would use them in a derogatory fashion.

As for moron and idiot, i think the real issue here is that the USA servers (Zeus and Ares) language is different from german which is where the game is being developed. (ps bad move Dev's, please make a US game IN the USA)
Because the Dev's don't split the language barrier very far, words that are considered bad in german are carried to here in the US. Now a few extra words from the US are removed, but generally they haven't done much to look for the differences between the german language and the English language.
I'm not really going to continue talking here, my personal views on the subject is to keep those two words banned, even if on a political mindset they are fine, i just don't think a 10 year old should be given the opportunity to use them. (or a 0-120 Y/O for that matter)
My point is, unless the words are being used in a good environment, ok, but in a game with players with different word managing skills (the difference between players who cuss/nice guys/kids) these words should be left alone.

The rationale for these being censored has been that players have used these terms often ignorantly in derogatory and insulting ways. As the culture and player base evolves, however, we are open to considering a revision of the policy, and we'll investigate further. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I appreciate your consideration of the topic, BB_Effiluna! It would seem to me that anyone intent on using any banned word in this game can easily get around doing so, so I wonder about the decision to censor. I can further respect the desire to not have younger children seeing negative content in the chat, but I'm not sure that censoring effectively addresses this issue due to the numerous ways that insulting people have found to be make sure that their words are seen in the chat. That said, the decision rule I'm suggesting would be to censor words that can only be used "ignorantly in derogatory and insulting ways" rather than words that are derogatory and insulting only when the intent behind their use is to be insulting or derogatory. Beyond that, it should be in the interest of players to ignore those who are being insulting and, perhaps, for BBs to have a greater capacity to sanction those whose intent is to be harmful in the chat.
