If you play adventures enough, the loots should provide enough income to support your entire military.
I wonder if any production is necessary, other than for completing guild quests.

i guess it's possible, buy overtime and run DB every day, sell 2 x ls for 4kgc, which is more than enough to repurchase everything you need to run another one...same goes for VLT... all materials+adventure+overtime cost around 8k, and you can sell 2 x LS for that much, so your profit is your whole LS.... not sure if you can run it every 24 hours tho... there's a lot of downtime and you need to recreate 4k troops for that... (to have 5k+ strong army and lvl5 barracks and prov houseis another req)
It is very possible to do this. I have not seen any guild quests that have a production requirement. I have seen production requirement for other general quests. I've been leaning into going this route because I want to replace my entire FW chain (FW Foresters/Cutters, Cokers). And just start selling all the LS I do run. Only problem with this is you tend to not offer a LS to a guildmate/friend for free or swap the LS with another LS for the rewards.
You would have to look at the cost of all adventures and some of them are not worth it. For example, the LS for Sons of the Veld or Secluded Experiment are not worth the LS sell value. Is it doable yes? I know personally this is a route I'm going down and will be starting this in October/November. As far as needing the barracks buff, no. You sell the adventures LS at the end, when it becomes FF. Most time consuming adventures, or troop cost run for 7-9days. That should give you plenty of time to go through the entire adventure with no taggers until you hit the end.
The only buildings I'm possibly keeping is one Sbow & 1 lbow. (I've re-written a lot of guides to include lbows instead of sbows because when my stock of sbows goes out, I use lbow men until I run out of lbows, it saves me gc in the long run) as well as 2 stables, I might be adding a 3rd stable as well not sure yet. I plan to get rid of my entire coal industry and replace it with more farms/silos/watermills and add more bakers, 1 frairie, and maybe one stable. But we'll see. It really depends on how much space I have available to work with.
Only reason to keep stables is because there is good LS to sell if you produce the ponies to run them with.

Well to start up your economy you'll obviously need to produce stuff. But once you get towards level 42-48 range. You could in theory do a lot of black knights sell loot spots. and live off your loot and the loot spot values to buy more bronze swords and beer and bread (and/or) wait for your settlers population to regrow.
But its very slow.
This could easily be done, as there are adventures that sell lootspots for more than the troop cost (I'd look at black knights or maybe even some of the tailor adventures) and then you can sell the loots you don't need like granite in trade for troop building material.
RB is also a good one LSs usually sell for 1200gc and loot is good
