Question about building more sawmills

I am debating whether i should build more sawmills. i have 8k of hardwood but not enough planks. Would build more sawmills provide me with more planks or cause everything to go out of balance?

Build more sawmills then. :-) You should look up the chain production ratio and that will help you balance your production.

If you don't have enough planks it might just that you're using them often. So technically, you might have a balanced production already just buy more planks as you need it. You can always convert pinewood plank to hardwood plank as well.
