Went to start the computer this morning and it went to the Toshiba screen as usual then went to black screen and white lettering.
PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
PXE- M0F : Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key.
I got this machine new 5 years ago. It did not come with a boot disc.
Any suggestions?

First point I think of...how are you posting?
Second, 5 years is about the life of a computer nowadays. The manufacturers make them to stop working after about that time so you have to buy a new one. I say your two options are to find a computer mechanic to sort it or buy a new computer.

I installed a new HD and tried to reinstall my OS from a Toshiba recover disc. The disc was for a 32 byte system and mine is 64 bytes. The windows instillation went smoothly up to the point where it stopped. Unexpected error. I have since gotten a 64 bit disc, but everything I try to install it fails. The partially installed version is all that will start up.
