And why is it offered as a limited time thing only? Trying to make a quick cash grab by calling it limited time offering?

Well, If it's a limited time offer. That means they may not be tradable and be like the Premium Tokens.
Why the hell would it be limited? That serves no logical purpose. I mean, a holiday event I could understand but a one-week gem rush?

I was gonna stock up on a fair number of them but guess I won't bother now -- so many gems not having to be used now.

This is mentioned on the front page news of the website.
Just an update - the date on the news post was incorrect. The Improved Silo will remain in the Shop until March 12th maintenance. That being said, the developers have been receiving a lot of negative feedback about that and are considering other options. I'll let you know when there is more information.
BB_Rawren, can't the improved Silo have 3 separate production cycles of each a base time of 12 minutes going on like in the epic work yard?
This would solve all possible problems making it literally an improved silo, the user can even choose to turn separate production cycles on or off and since there are 3 separate cycles, zero production time will be lost, and 3 fields refilled at the same time.
with the new production cycle optimizations, the building would automatically look for the next-nearest field to refill when another reached regular capacity (starting value)
