Clive sure does have a point, now doesn't he? It would be a whole lot easier to give travelers directions if these land features had names. For example, we could just call the kidney-shaped lake "Kidney Lake" and that valley with all the pretty purple flowers "Violet Valley." Say - didn't you mention you took a beginner's cartography course? Why then - you could name all these features!"You're looking to travel through the mountains? Well, that's a mighty treacherous road, friend. There's a pass that goes straight through them mountains, but it's difficult to spot unless you're right up on it. Let's see ... first, you want to follow this river until it forks. Follow the left fork until you spot a valley - not just any valley, you see, but one with bright purple wildflowers - not to be confused with the valley of slightly-less purple wildflowers. I'd say they were more mauve, anyhow. Cross that valley until you get to a bandit town. No, I don't know which one, but be careful to visit the bandit leader on the right and not on the left. The one on the right will avert his eyes on your passing for a shiny bribe; the other shoots all trespassers on sight. Finally, you'll want to turn left when you get to the kidney-shaped lake. It doesn't really look like a kidney unless you're standing on top of the mountain, and it kind of resembles the slightly-oval shaped lake. Walk for three miles and the pass will be straight ahead. Here, I wrote it all down on this napkin, along with this generic map of lakes, mountains and bandit camps. Boy, if only all these land features had names, that would make giving you directions a whole lot easier! Anyhoo, good luck!"
