Lord of the rings online is free to play and a 1000 times better game. Pirates of the Caribbean is free to play and is 500 times better game.

I do enjoy this game, it takes little to thought and can be played at our leisure

But really, it's a horrible browser game with little thought and not much future as it is now.

True, many like this game.
The xp gaps widen a lot after level 45 and without a good production it becomes difficult to continue on.

I'm not sure how much I'll last past level 50, but there are not any alternatives that I'm aware. LOTRO is I assume an RPG, and Pirates is dead as far as I can tell. I'll be plenty happy if I can get even a couple years out of it. There are few games I can say that about.

I was lvl 45 for over 1 year... but my isle looked better than most 50s at the time. I saw no point in lvling, I only short ran DBs for WTs (which were the best pop building at the time). And then star coins came out and I saw a reason to lvl to 50, get your free gems and 1 day prems*!......

3rd person poor man versions of WoW? Other than being browser based (which is just effing awful for those types of games) what do they have in common with TSO?

You might as well say GTA, or Fifa 2014 is a better game.
