From what I understand, while BB wont reimburse people for lootspots, they will take action if scamming occurs against the person who scams.
More of the same "new" content with a different bow? I will give more of the "same" towards my gem accumulation.

spike, you'd think they would do something about it, and they told us to report scammers, but when i reported one, all they said was, 'sorry, you made the trade. only trade with players your trust.' this wasn't a loot spot, but a lending trade to complete a quest. and yes i had screenshots of the conversation to prove the nature of the transaction. so reporting someone doesnt do a durn thing.

when i told them it was a possible multi account, they said they would look into that part. days later that account was gone, but i still have no idea if they deleted it, or the player asked to have it closed after he forwarded the goods to another account. bottom line, my guildie was still out the goods, and they never confirmed if the player was punished or not.

What I found was that they would not tell the reporter what happened to the person (same as they won't tell a guild leader why someone was banned), but the scammer account usually tends to disappear. Small consolation to the person who got scammed, but at this point it's probably the best we can hope for. I hope BB reverses their policy on "name and shame" one day because people do have real dollars tied up here.

    here's what support said.
it was only after i used the word 'multi accounting'
and provided evidence of such that they said they would investigate.
which leads me to believe no action at all would have been taken if i
had not been able to provide evidence of multiple accts.

Thank you for contacting The Settlers Online Support regarding your issue with this player.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused for you.

Unfortunately, the trade was issued as a normal trade and when giving items to another player without receiving something in return is a risky operation that should only be done with people you trust. Sadly, we cannot be held responsible for the missing items as they were traded to the player legitimately through the trade system.

Though I am very sorry to hear about people being taken in this game, it is not the first time.

I, personally will not take a ls from one that I do not know or is not in my guild. (Not that either guarantees not getting 'scammed', I think it GREATLY reduces the chances that I will get scammed). Most of us have been on long enough to know many good players to which we can work with, for all others:

    1. Only accept ls from friends (actual friends) and guildies.
    2. When offering ls on TO, only give ls AFTER payment is made.

Whenever you all finally get BB to sanitize this gameplay here so that is is not at all like real life, let me know.

I do not scam or cheat, but the fact that it happens makes the game more interesting. imo.

If u are prone to scams, get into a guild with players who are not.

Why is it that most of us Closed Beta players have NEVER been scammed?

Why is is that so many new people are?

How can making the game a place where nobody is ever scammed in a trade or on a lootspot even possible?

If the policy really were to let the buyer beware, then maybe the buyers would learn to beware.

This phony sanitization of all the evil scammers will only teach people to act without caution, when it should be teaching them the truth, that you cannot trust everyone.

In the game, they have provided a safe method for exchanging items. Both sides can see exactly what is being offered and requested, and both parties have to agree to the trade at some point. When there is an error that occurs when using the trading system, Blue Byte typically will reimburse the people trading. However, what is occurring here is that people are making a valid trade in game, that is working appropriately, but are requesting additional considerations for making that trade. In the case of the loot spot for a fish, players are in game terms buying a very expensive fish; the rest of the issue is part of a social interaction between players.

While the rules of conduct for the game does govern some social interactions between players, it does not act to prevent players from acting badly with each other. In cases where these rules are broken, then customer service can take action against specific accounts. As multiple accounting is clearly against the TOS, these can be acted on much more easily than acting on the player violating the spirit of the game.

Therefore, when asking for additional considerations when making trades, please use some basic sense. As much as I can sympathize with someone who was cheated, at some point a person should know not to request to participate in an adventure where the person offering is not even able to start the adventure. This information can be obtained simply by have a link with the offerer, and a friend or guild link would be required to be invited to the adventure.

MAY THE LOOTSPOT trend die! May the help era arise in TSO. Viva la guild sharing lootspot trend! Viva la free loot spot. May the greed be put aside one day lol.
I've been scammed as well in other games. I'm the one at fault everytime I have. I trust people. You should trust people. But, you should investigate first. Or if you do not wish to do that be prepared to pay the price** Trust isn't cheap. It comes with sacrifices. So does finding a real friend.

In reality, if you take away the ability to sell lootspots then the scammers will rely solely on the gifted gem items scam. Then, logically, you'll have to take away the ability to sell gifted gem items. Which results in the community spending fewer dollars to buy gems (aside from the ones given as rewards, gifts from BB, etc). So now, if you follow the "Leave the scamming and the scammers in the game, and no name and shame" you've effectively accomplished two things. Neither of which appear to be good for BB's upside. First, it's not unlikely that people who have been scammed and have not received any support from BB in recovering their lost assets will become frustrated and leave the game. Which in turn means that those people aren't going to be around to spend real dollars to support the game. Second, that approach makes it less likely that people will buy gems (again, with the aforementioned aside), to gift-trade items because people are afraid of being scammed and won't buy or trade for gem-gift items, driving demand for those items down. Again, people not spending real dollars to support the product.

And for the "It's just like real-life, buyer beware" supporters, remember that people who cheat and scam in the real world are; (1.) breaking laws, (2.)are actively pursued by law enforcement and, (3.) generally get caught and punished ;-).
