That what I did. I have all gem pits on my island atm. After I got enough gems, I did buy one endless copper mine and that's all I need. I still need to build my copper mines but that's okay.

Having ECM is a luxury. It means less time spent on searching and building the copper mines. If you can afford it - why not? I love mine. You build one upgrade it and that's it no need of your attention ever (unless you buff it like I do). I opt for little mangmt as possible. Again, its a luxury, pricey but comfy.
Everyone runs things a little different. I have on ECM placed on a deposit that produces every 1.5 minutes, at lvl 5 and buffed 3x, I get all the copper ore I need. So I no longer have to keep searching and rebuilding copper mines. I only search for marble and iron deposits. My coal is inactive along with my 5 other copper deposits.

No worry, Once new changes (re-balance combat) make it to life, you will need a crap load of iron ore to make all those IS and SS needed to do adventures. Endless Iron mine is coming to gem shop within 30 days of the new changes going life
