Thieves
Introduce thieves into the game.
Thieves would come in three varieties
Thief - your basic cat-purse that could “steal” level 1 resources
Water
Stone
Marble
Pinewood logs
Copper
Wheat
Coal
Meat
Master Thief - Your basic cat-burgler that steals level 2 resources
Pinewood planks
Hardwood logs
Bronze
Iron ore
Flour
Sausage
Brew
Expert Thief - Your professional master criminal that steals level 3 resources
Hardwood Planks
Exotic wood logs
Bread
Iron
Steel
Granite
Gold ore
Titanium ore
Salt peter
Take a basic peasant it will cost 3 manuscript to create a Thief
Take a thief and it will take 5 Tomes to create a Master thief
Take a master thief and take 10 Codex to create an Expert Thief.
These could be trained with Manuscript, Tome and Codex to either shorten the time needed to find the resource or to increase the amount of loot.
24 hours - invest 5 Tome to shorten to
12 hours - invest 10 Codex to shorten to
6 hours
50 loot - invest 5 Tome to increase to
100 loot - invest 10 codex to increase to
200 loot
Of course any of this could be modified to maintain game balance.

I would change the characters title to Privateer or Corsair.
Thief could be a rank, usually it's the lowest rank.
Master is typically a higher rank than Expert.
Would be interesting to loot an island or camp instead of attacking it. Your specialist idea may work with pvp resource islands.
A well planned skill tree offers a variety of play options but limits the total number of possible selections.

Mayor
There seem to be plenty in trade now :P

hahahaha i had read this a few times. i thought we were calling players out for shady deals
-
I thought this was going to be a topic about the recent changes.
I wouldn't want to see anything that uses books until the book system is fixed. It's hard enough to produce books for explorers.
-
Books are suppose to be hard to make. They are just going to give you more resources for nothing. With the new glue coming for the christmas event, it should be a cake walk.
-
3 months to max out a single specialist makes hard an understatement.
-
well an easier way is to run BNs and hope for RBNs in loot they usually drop between 4-5 books
-
I really like BN, but I get the sense the drop rate of RBN is pretty low.
