there should be a way to interest people in buying gems, with out ruining the game for some.
As a guild leader, I do save the event items to help lower level players get an item some times 2 from each event, this is done cause the guild members pull together and donate their items, after they get what they want. Now you are ruining that group effort.
Why cause you want more gem buyers, well give them something worth buying in the store, with gems, NOT something costing 5k gems or more, lower your sights 2 big spenders you get x amount of dollars, and maybe they will buy something else some time. lower price 8 buyers, they are happy and will buy more cause it doesn't cost an arm and leg.
this is a long planed game you want players that will stay and spend, you are offering improvements, don't ruin things by taking away something that keeps a lot here.
part of the issue with that is that alot of the F2P games out there see a significant chunk of thier income come from those big ticket gem buyers who spend 100 or even several hundred dollars a month on a game. It sounds crazy (and it probably is) but it is what happens. That said if their low gem cost items where at realistic prices (do the math on buying stone or pwp with gems) and they might get people actually buying 10-20 dollars worth of gems for the cheaper items because they would actually be worth buying instead of getting essentially scammed if they buy them at current prices.

So, claims that BB never let people "go back" and purchase things from previous events are not true. They simply put the same offers as last year in the shop.

Creating elitist groups of players by designing event shop NOT allowing new players to purchase stuff because they were not playing last year? What sense does that make? Those who hoarded old eggs already have everything that this shop offers. Last year players had a chance of purchasing the best general in game for even resources. This year this chance is not only taken away from new players who were all looking forward to it, no that's not enough. Newbies also have to watch BB putting what they really would like in shop for a resource that they don't have and most likely (because of prices of old eggs) will not be able to obtain.

I don't care what elitist perspective you use to justify this. BB just gave a finger to all newbies who are actually the only people who would even consider purchasing gems. Way to go.
You are missing the entire point of what he was saying. Until this year those offers were NOT the same. They were the same item for the same quantity but it was another offer altogether. This allowed an older player to say get 3 recyclers one year and 3 more the next year while the newer player could only get the 3 from the next year and was forever locked out of being able to buy the 3 from the previous year. THAT was his point. I do agree with a system that allows the newer players to eventually catch up to the older players in terms of event items bought, however I also agree that BB should not force us to spend or lose the event items and instead offer 1 time use items that are actually worth buying with event resources (buffs and deposits are examples of 1 time use items, grout to a degree does accomplish this but eventually you no longer have buildings that need to be upgraded).

Don't forget those stupid 415 Balloons in my storehouse or good grief just get rid of them. And I really really hope there is something that is actually worth buying. When I look at the old prov house trade in rates, it makes me wonder what we will be able to buy with stuff that was worth a lot until this announcement, well, except my balloons. I'm not even a hoarder, but this is a tough cold-turkey kind of thing here.

    My suggestion:
    - Old event resources traded for a new "Summer Garage Sale" event resource on a one to one basis except balloons. Let's call this mythical resource a BB Buck.
    - In the regular Prov House, you can trade one egg, one football, one present or one pumpkin for a BB Buck. Old resources remain tradeable until converted to BB Bucks.
    - Some ideas for purchase: expert weapons, gem-only adventures, and of course in the spirit of recycling all the old crap... make a recycler available each year. The reason to have a few smaller lots of items like expert weapons is so you can offer scaleable purchases, like 50 BB Bucks for 50 Cannons, so the smaller players can buy something worth having with their leftovers.

This could be a recurring event every summer, with different offers based on previous stuff and a few scaleable or semi-desireable things thrown in.

    Just my two BB Bucks....

I agree. I've been saving them.

I LOL'd so much at that traded those balloons for coins loooooooooooooong time ago in my PH. (farming water to turn into balloons was what convinced me to become a water seller once the event was over)

On the other hand, BB's decision is definitely hard to understand. They tried to fix something, but they made it worse and their credibility is hurt. As for now I will give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what will happen.
I complained about how the MMA being available to only a certain type of player was unfair- that was my position. I called people who whined in every one of their post and would not stop, whiners.....

I'm really fine with dropping the old eggs for new eggs. Without doing that, players that stocked up over multiple years would be able to buy literally everything as soon as the event starts. Then they have nothing to look forward to for rest of the event.

Well, keep your old eggs for the summer event. =^.^=
Still around from time to time.
