One of the problems with this game is because of the changes over the years there is now too big of a gap between players who are lvl 50 and have played years and people who haven't. BB tried to correct some of this on the event by replacing the eggs but you still have players who have 'everything' so of course things are so much easier for them and they don't need anything else.
I think a gem sale as you mentioned would be a good idea.
Yes, once you've bought everything, there's nothing left to buy. But for those of us who haven't...there is absolutely nothing to spend gems on anyways......

yeah man, BB should 5 more gem pits and a new item or something- have close to 200k gems in storage and nothing left to buy in gem shop that is WORTH itthere is absolutely nothing to spend gems on anyways......

Identical problem. I wouldnt even buy scouts or many licences since they arnt lucky explorers these days.
I always thought I might need to buy parrots one day... but then gold became worthless! lol
I still feel dumb for buying the endless copper mines which while cool to look at are completely worthless compared to just selling a couple thousand gems for coin and then buying the endless supply of copper
