Alternate "Campaign" mode (new adventure mode?)

Just a brief background on the Settlers game series. In the early series of The Settlers PC game, (Surf City and Settlers2+3), the game was a series of "Maps/Missions" that connects back to back until the story campaign is completed.

For example, one game had it where you landed on this map/region and you had to build up your settlers and expand your border edges by building towers and increasing your border. You take over the enemy that was also building up as well- fighting over towers to dominate the map. One game had a "portal" for the exit or finish condition of the map. In which you go to another map- via that portal and started over.

When you first play Settlers Online, you are on this island and had to clear the camps to make room for your base to expand until the island was completely cleared of the enemy. (which is what we have now for most players who play setters online).

This style of game play basically is wasted - like the fog of war and the explorer having the need to search/explore the island.

All we do now is just 'adventures' where you take troops to some map clear it and bring back loot. The economy aspect of the game comes from your existing island and really never feels like a challenge anymore.

How about a new game mode that brings back the style of what "Settlers" is about. Maybe a new story/lore theme can be a Wizard appears on your island and talks about some great danger and opens a portal on your island. Entering the portal takes you to a new island where you must start fresh. And must build up a settlement and troops from scratch and advance to the exit portal on that map and then bring back the rewards to your island. This 'new map' can have many new mechanics of its own and different resources that are unique/exclusive to the portal map that you bring back.

At least this would feel like a Settlers game.

    Thanks for reading the suggestion.

Would you be able to swap between the new map and your old map before completing the new map? Would this new map be a fresh start or would you be able to take some troops/items in it with you?

Yes you can swap between the two maps. Like how you can visit an adventure and back to your own base. So you're managing two maps. Like how you're on an adventure. This would be a campaign/story mode that wouldn't prevent you from doing adventures.

As for entering the portal. It would take out 'some of your resources' from the main base as a 'cost' to enter the portal. those resources are the starting resources for the new map. I suppose 'some troops could be taken with you. A limitation.

Just imagine replaying each of the old settlers game. Settlers 2,3,4. One of them had a portals mechanics (forgot which one it was) as the end game conditions.

But regarding troops to take with you. I think best not to have any troops to take with you because then you can do some more creative things like make the troop types more interesting. In the previous settlers, you can choose which race you want to play as and each one had different looking troops.

All the old Settlers game series was really fun and enjoyable to play with their stories. Seems like the entire Settlers Franchise just died. Was hoping for something new with that other Settlers game but it got cancelled and renamed to Champions of Anteria. (probably for good reasons cuz the combat mechanics was totally different than what we were used to with a settlers series).

To be honest, I felt the Settlers 5,6,7 were pretty crappy. The whole change to the 3D kind of killed it all.
Settlers 1,2,3,4 by far was the most fun.
