I thought that this was the worst event that I have ever experienced in The Settlers Online. It was my understanding that people who tested the Event provided a lot of negative feedback related to some of its features, and that many/all of those criticisms were not addressed. Then, like the Halloween event, deposits were difficult to accumulate, making it more difficult than necessary to gather Event currency. I remember the days when there was sufficient Event currency that could be collected during Events in order to purchase all the buildings and Geos/Explorers/Gens, and have enough left over to invest in some Grout -- No more. For both the Halloween and the Valentine's Events, it seems as though players had to "pick and choose" what primary rewards they would be collecting resources for, and deciding that there were certain Event rewards that they simply could not purchase. This kind of "scarcity" of Event resources makes a "game" feel more like "work," and I find it distressing that The Settlers Online seems to be moving more and more in that direction.

Add to that the problems encountered in getting the Event started, the Maintenance shutdown that occurred within days of Event start, the buffs and buildings that did not (and, as I understand, some that still do not) work, and the Explorers not returning Event resources after Event ending, and I don't understand how this Event could be interpreted as anything other than a failure. As Sir Pool said in the post just before mine, it seems that planning and execution of game elements is not being accomplished well (dating back to the change to the Mail system, which was a complete disaster, IMHO). -EG

Great job on the event it's always nice to have something different now and then. That being said I didn't like it much at all. First off, the event forces you to rely on others for just about everything. I don't like having to constantly ask people for this buff or that adventure just for the achievements. I gave up after the second quest it became so much of a bother to ask people to buff my island. Also the garden refills aren't worth it. 75 roses just for a 10 refill what's the point you end up losing unless you can use a double buff. Then there's the Weather Station. The brief description sounded good until I wasted resources on getting it only to find out that whatever buffs it gives applies to you AND the enemy. Aaaaand why is that a good idea? There's no advantage if the enemy gets the same benefit. It's really nothing more than an expensive decoration.

I got it also, it was Settlers III that got me interested in this to start it all off.

I liked how rewarding players for running co-op adventures gave folks a reason to run them, and I for one had a good time. I especially enjoyed how easy it was to join or fill one. Tomb Raiders seemed especially popular even though Buccaneer Roundup offered more refills and was easier for newer players (30-45).

I noticed none of the lower level buildings, like watermills or recycling plant or silos, were offered to help out newer players (30-45). My friends felt left out and noticed that most of the items were geared toward advanced players (50+).

I look forward to this event again next year and hopefully it will be fine tuned and ready to go by then!

Thanks for the new explorer and geo. I know there were some hiccups getting the event starting, otherwise the only real problem is that none of the achievements were achievable solo. Maybe that was the point of the Valentine event, but it required more coordination than I had time for.

As a general statement, I am tired of events. They used to be something special, but now there are so many regular events, mini-events, crisis events, and whatever else that they're starting to feel more like work than something I look forward to. While I don't like to miss new buildings or specialists, I do not have the interest or time to play the game for hours on end every day during an event, so I no longer bother with a lot of the event items and quests.

Beyond the time consideration, it is also clear that each time an event is launched, the game suffers from more bugs and lag. I would much rather have fewer events (far fewer) and have the game cleaned up and more functional.

If this event is done again, please consider changing the Valentine's cards to make them more light hearted and neutral. For the most part we are swapping the cards with people who are casual online acquaintances or complete strangers. To receive the associated notes with strong, intimate declarations of love is out of place and a bit creepy. Casual, friendly notes would be a much appreciated change.

Sadly, by and by I find the new buildings to be pretty useless. I never had a problem with population growth (if I did I must have over 40,000 pop in star, not to mention bread). To Make matters worse, You have to buy 2 love gardens to make the buffs work. Even with 2, you have to wait 10.5 hours after activation and have only a 1.5 hr window to activate the 2nd one to even get the basic buff. A whole lot of hoops just for a population growth buff. So what of the player who only bought one? They get nothing, zero used out of it after rearranging their residences... NEVER previously seen any building in the game that was useless until you bought a 2nd. BB should have at least noted: Needs 2 to work in the description.

In all fairness however, It was awesome to see an event that was centered around people working together for a change. The last couple years all the best rewards for doing adv were all the single player variety (a subtle way for BB to nudge us away from working together for good rewards). Years past I would see countless LS given away in guild chat, people helping each other. Black Knights was the popular share. Its nice to be able to play an event the way we used to years ago, everyone helping each other. IMO thats what made the game a lot of fun.

    1) It was very easy to end up deleting a flower farm by mistake. And there is no way to get a new one. There should be a warning before trying to put another building on top of a depleted farm.
    2) The Love garden building is quite confusing on how to use. Is it supposed to be placed close to residences or can be anywhere and is a zone buff?
    3) The combination of valentine card and love crazy buffs gets a huge multiplier , unfortunately I figured this out quite late in the game.

I will say that I loved the music that came with this event. Being a classical musician, I especially appreciated the miniscule amount of the gap before it was repeated (compared to the music for Halloween & Christmas that have large gaps and breaks up the mood).

I think this is a fair point too. When I first started events were a great way to help out newer players, a lot of fun and achievements and available event items could mostly be obtained reasonably easily with room to help others too. Now events are becoming a chore, leading to TSO fatigue...

The current philosophy seems to be to force more players to spend gems on event resources in order to benefit fully from the event. While i have previously spent on gems, I feel less and less inclined to do so the way the game is heading nowadays.
