It has been realized that there are storage limits on certain starfall items, specifically Forerunner parts.
The quest asks for 5 Hull parts, 20 gas, and 10 sails. It's easy to make a bunch so you'll have them next time. The problem is that next time you will still be required to make them, and if you have a bunch stored up you will not be able to transfer the ones you make from your star menu to your storage to get credit for making them! There is no warning or notice except that instead of the quest line filling you will find the parts you made in the star menu, and when you try to move them it says you can't move them into storage. You will notice that the Mayors House or any other storage building does not have the forerunner parts counts listed. The only way to eliminate the problem is to go to the forerunner and make surplus parts into salable units and sell them. This will remove them from the hidden inventory so you can make more and continue the quest.
I haven't done the math to know if making excess parts and selling them is worthwhile, for myself I just don't have the time or desire.
My suggestion is that when a quest calls for you to make 5 hull parts, 20 gas, and 10 sails, you only make that number and use them so your inventory is clear for the next round.
The exception to this is the Lube. As pointed out by Lady_Kizmiaz, the return on investment for the lube in the 4th quest is excellent, and the time to mine out the ore is significantly reduced, a win-win situation! You can Lube buff the 5 motes every 2 hours if you're online (maybe 5 times?) and haul in 4x shards per mote per cycle! I haven't heard of anyone running out of storage space for the lube.
I hope this helps someone. Feel free to pass this on, and if there are corrections or updates please let me know!
